How Learning Works with Catholic Virtual
Students learn through a combination of self-directed study and teacher instruction or coaching. Catholic Virtual’s curriculum is entirely online, so it is easily accessed through a computer or internet device. Coursework is completed either within or outside a traditional classroom. If taken through a school program, the school usually determines the method of course instruction. If students enroll with Catholic Virtual directly, they can decide the method of instruction that works best for their individual situation.
Instruction can be done through independent study, with teachers grading assignments and assessments and coaching remotely through online messaging. Alternatively, students may have live, online instruction provided by a Catholic Virtual teacher. Instruction may occur once per week or as much as once each school day, depending on the course and choice made by the school or student. Students who opt for one-to-one instruction have regular individual sessions with a teacher. All instructional methods include some independent study done by the student.
Students access course content and messages, interact with other students, monitor progress, and more through our online learning portal, MyVirtualCampus. Live instructional sessions are conducted through Zoom and many sessions are recorded for future reference by students. Students can interact with one another over Zoom or within the school classroom, if their class attends together.
Assignments are completed online and graded by a Catholic Virtual teacher. In most instances, Catholic Virtual teachers grade coursework and Catholic Virtual awards course credit and diplomas based on successful completion of studies. Alternatively, a school may opt to issue credit when the course is offered as part of their curriculum.
How We Fit In
Catholic Virtual serves families in two main ways.
Catholic Virtual provides courses to schools, which are delivered through the school as part of their curriculum. Alternatively, families may enroll directly in Catholic Virtual courses, either full-time or for individual courses.
How We Teach
- Independent study. Most courses are available as independent study. This gives you excellent flexibility to study when and where you choose.
- Online course with live instruction by Catholic Virtual. Many courses are offered as teacher-led, live online instruction in a class with other students combined with independent study. This provides excellent opportunities for interaction as well as flexibility.
- Individualized learning. Many courses also are available with one-on-one live instruction. This option gives you the most personalized, high-touch learning experience.
- If you want to mix and match teaching methods for different courses, that is available, too.
